Les Arcs is four villages named after their altitude, stacked above Bourg-Saint-Maurice. Arc 1800 is the largest, Arc 1950 the newest, Arc 1600 the oldest and closest to the funicular. Getting the number right is the difference between arriving at your door and arriving several hundred metres of altitude away from it.
The road, not the funicular
There is a funicular from Bourg-Saint-Maurice, but with luggage and a family the road is simpler. We drive the whole way, to the village you name.
